City of Eagle Pass Hosted Economic Development Workshop, Seeks to Spur Businesses and Economy

The City of Eagle Pass hosted an “Understanding the Economic Development Process” workshop Thursday, July 23, 2026, bringing together community leaders, business representatives and other stakeholders to discuss strategies for strengthening the local economy and creating new opportunities for growth.

The city partnered with the Small Business Development Center, Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce and Opportunity Strategies LLC to organize the workshop.

Alysia A. Cook, PCED, IOM, served as the featured presenter and led participants through an engaging discussion about the economic development process and the role local leaders, organizations and businesses play in helping a community grow.

Cook is the chief executive officer of Opportunity Strategies LLC and a nationally recognized economic and community development educator, strategic planner, facilitator and public speaker. She has more than 30 years of experience training elected officials, economic development boards, government employees, chamber professionals and community leaders.

Her PCED credential identifies her as a Professional Community and Economic Developer, while IOM represents her completion of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute for Organization Management.

Cook has also served as an instructor for the Texas Basic Economic Development Course, the Community Development Institute and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute for Organization Management.

Opportunity Strategies LLC is an Austin-based consulting and professional training company that works with cities, economic development organizations, chambers of commerce, associations and nonprofit groups. Its services include customized training, professional facilitation and strategic planning intended to help organizations improve operations, establish goals and develop economic growth strategies.

City officials thanked Cook and those who attended, participated and shared ideas during the workshop.
“Your collaboration and commitment to Eagle Pass are what make progress possible,” the city stated.

The city also recognized PNC Bank, Falcon Bank, Border Federal Credit Union and IBC Bank for sponsoring the workshop and supporting initiatives designed to invest in the community and its economic future.
