Eagle Pass ISD Board Recognizes Students Academic Achievements, Athletics and Food Service

The Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustees recognized numerous students and district departments on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at their regular meeting for academic achievement, leadership and excellence during a meeting of the Board.

Superintendent Samuel Mijares and Board President Jorge Barrera congratulated the students and district employees, recognizing their accomplishments and the positive recognition they have brought to EPISD.

Among those honored was C.C. Winn High School senior Luis Gael Prieto Banda, who was awarded the AP Scholar with Distinction designation by the College Board for his performance on Advanced Placement examinations.

C.C. Winn High School ninth grader Alann Hernandez was recognized for being selected to participate in the 2026 Youth Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C., held in conjunction with the NCCEP/GEAR UP Annual Conference from July 19 through July 22.
Amadi Cortes, a ninth grader at Eagle Pass High School, was also recognized for being selected to participate in the 2026 NCCEP/GEAR UP Annual Conference in Washington, D.C.
The Board additionally honored six Eagle Pass High School students who represented Eagle Pass Junior High and Eagle Pass High School at the prestigious Tapia Camps hosted by Rice University.

EPISD’s Athletic Department was recognized after being selected as a District of Distinction for the 2025-2026 school year by the University Interscholastic League.

The district’s Food Service Department was also honored after being recognized as a USDA Foods Challenge Awardee by the Texas Department of Agriculture.

Mijares and Barrera congratulated the honorees and district staff for their accomplishments, highlighting the students and employees whose work continues to represent EPISD at the local, state and national levels.

The EPISD Board of Trustees consists of President Jorge Barrera, Vice President Hilda P. Martinez, Secretary Christopher Hiller and Trustees Victor E. Perry, Claudio Heredia, Jaime C. Barrera and Tom Gonzalez.
