Eagle Pass Officials Travel to Washington, D.C., for Legislative Meetings

Eagle Pass Mayor Aaron Valdez, Councilman Elias Diaz, Councilwoman Jessica Rey Ramon and City Manager Homero Balderas are in Washington, D.C., as part of a city legislative trip focused on federal programs, transportation, infrastructure and other issues affecting the community.
According to a public notice issued by the City of Eagle Pass, the delegation’s trip began Tuesday, September 15, 2026 and is scheduled to continue through Friday, September 18.
The itinerary includes meetings with representatives from the office of U.S. Senator John Cornyn, U. S. House of Representative Henry Cuellar, and officials from the White House Office of Legislative Affairs and Office of Intergovernmental Affairs.
City representatives are also scheduled to meet with the Texas Department of Transportation’s director of federal affairs and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner.
Transportation and border infrastructure are among the principal issues included in the trip.
The delegation’s schedule lists meetings with representatives of the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration, Federal Railroad Administration and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
The Eagle Pass representatives are also expected to meet with Federal Emergency Management Agency officials before concluding the legislative trip and departing Washington on Friday.
Representatives from the Community Transformation Alliance are listed as participants in some of the scheduled meetings.
The City issued a notice of a possible quorum because the mayor and multiple members of the City Council could be present at one or more of the events.
The notice stated that no formal action would be taken by the City Council during the meetings.
The legislative trip gives Eagle Pass officials an opportunity to communicate directly with federal and state representatives regarding the city’s transportation needs, international bridges, border operations, infrastructure projects and access to federal funding.
