Eagle Pass Police Department Held Sexual Assault and Family Violence Investigations Training

Eagle Pass Police Chief Amy Gonzalez announced that the Eagle Pass Police Department held a free comprehensive law enforcement training program focused on the investigation of sexual assault and family violence cases.
The Sexual Assault Family Violence Investigator Course was during September 15 through September 17, 2026 at the International Center for Trade, located at 3295 Bob Rogers Drive in Eagle Pass.
The 24-hour course was eligible for Texas Commission on Law Enforcement credit and designed to strengthen the response of law enforcement officers to sexual assault and family violence crimes.
Training included the dynamics of family violence, state laws involving family violence, the dynamics of sexual assault, sexual assault laws and investigative techniques used in sexual assault and family violence cases.
The course also addressed stalking, drug-facilitated sexual assault and violence affecting immigrant and tribal communities.
Additional instruction focused on sexual assault and family violence involving members of the military, people with disabilities, deaf individuals and older adults.
Officers also received information about community response efforts and resources available to assist victims.
The course was presented by retired San Juan Texas Chief Juan Gonzalez, an advanced SAFVIC instructor with 37 years of law enforcement experience.
Gonzalez previously served as a police chief and SWAT commander and is a TCOLE advanced instructor.
The training qualified as a Special Investigative Topics course or the Trauma Informed Approach to Sexual Assault Investigations course.
The Eagle Pass Police Department is hosted the program as part of its continuing effort to provide law enforcement personnel with specialized training and improve the investigation of crimes involving vulnerable victims or persons.
