Eagle Pass Police Seize 26 Kilograms of Cocaine During Traffic Stop

Eagle Pass Police Chief Amy Gonzalez informed that officers seized approximately 26.13 kilograms of cocaine following a traffic stop conducted Saturday, September 19, 2026.

According to the Eagle Pass Police Department, officers stopped a white Kia Sorento for a traffic violation after the vehicle nearly collided with another vehicle.
During the traffic stop, EPPD K9 Lolkey was deployed and alerted officers to the possible presence of narcotics inside the vehicle.

Police identified the driver as 64-year-old Enrique Buentello. The driver and vehicle were subsequently transported to the Eagle Pass Police Department, where officers conducted a more thorough inspection.

During the inspection, officers reportedly discovered 24 bundles concealed inside the vehicle’s center console area. The substance contained in the bundles was later determined to be cocaine, according to the department.

Police reported that the narcotics had a combined weight of approximately 26.13 kilograms, equivalent to about 57.6 pounds. Authorities estimated the cocaine’s street value at approximately $390,000.

The case remains under active investigation. Police stated that additional information will be released if and when it becomes available.

The Eagle Pass Police Department credited its officers and K9 Interdiction Unit for continuing to work proactively to identify and intercept illegal narcotics and other criminal activity within the community.

Buentello will face federal criminal charges for possession of controlled substances.

All individuals arrested or accused of a criminal offense are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
