Eagle Pass to Host Nine County Middle Rio Grande Development Council Economic Development Forum September 24

Eagle Pass will host government officials, community representatives and economic development stakeholders from across Southwest Texas during the Middle Rio Grande Development Council’s 2026 Regional Economic Development Forum.

The event is scheduled for Thursday, September 24, 2026 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the International Center for Trade, located at 3295 Bob Rogers Drive in Eagle Pass.

The Middle Rio Grande, Powering Potential, Driving Growth, forum is expected to promote regional cooperation and discussions about economic opportunities affecting communities throughout the Middle Rio Grande area.

The Middle Rio Grande Development Council serves a nine-county region composed of Maverick, Dimmit, Edwards, Kinney, La Salle, Real, Uvalde, Val Verde and Zavala counties.

Established in 1970 and headquartered in Carrizo Springs, the council is a voluntary association of county governments, municipalities and special districts. It is one of the regional councils of governments operating across Texas.

The organization works to strengthen the regional economy, improve workforce skills and help local governments and public institutions deliver services more effectively. It also supports programs intended to improve residents’ quality of life, including services benefiting older adults.

Regional councils provide communities with a platform to identify shared needs, exchange information and pursue solutions that may extend beyond the boundaries of a single city or county.

Hosting the forum in Eagle Pass places Maverick County at the center of a broader regional conversation involving communities that share many of the same economic and infrastructure challenges.

Eagle Pass is also positioned as an important international trade gateway because of its border crossings with Piedras Negras, Coahuila. Discussions involving transportation, workforce preparation, business recruitment and infrastructure could carry significant importance for the city and the surrounding region.

The MRGDC economic development forum is open to the public.
