Eagle Passan Oscar G. Inducted Into Totally Tejano Hall of Fame and Museum

Eagle Pass native and longtime Tejano recording artist Oscar Sanchez Gonzalez, professionally known as Oscar G., was honored Tuesday, September 15, 2026 with his induction into the Totally Tejano Hall of Fame and Museum in San Antonio, Texas, announced Roger Hernandez, CEO/President of Totally Tejano Hall of Fame and Museum.

Gonzalez attended the special ceremony surrounded by his family members, recording artists and musicians, friends and Tejano music aficionados who gathered to recognize his career and contributions to the genre.

Oscar G. expressed his appreciation for the distinction and thanked those who supported him throughout his musical journey.

The recognition provided an opportunity for the artist to reflect on the people, performances and experiences that helped shape his career.

The newly established exhibit included personal artifacts connected to his years as a performer. The items became part of the museum’s permanent collection, where they will help preserve his story for future generations of Tejano music fans.

Gonzalez first gained widespread recognition as a lead vocalist for David Lee Garza y Los Musicales, one of the most influential groups in Tejano music. During his time with Los Musicales, he recorded several songs remembered by longtime listeners, including “El Ojo de Vidrio,” “El Que Más Te Ha Querido,” “Quiero Verte Allá en el Cielo,” “Morenita” and “El Tira Dinero.”

He later launched his career with Oscar G. y Grupo Sol. The group became known for its energetic stage performances and Gonzalez’s powerful and versatile voice.

During the 1990s, Oscar G. and Grupo Sol recorded several albums, including Marca Mi Número, Te Quiero and Tú Eres Mía. Their recordings helped establish Gonzalez as a familiar and respected voice during an important period in the growth of Tejano music.

His career continued beyond the genre’s commercial peak.

His album Back N Better received a nomination for Conjunto Album of the Year at the 2015 Tejano Music Awards. “Eternamente,” his collaboration with Adalberto Gallegos, was also nominated for Vocal Duo of the Year.
Gonzalez was previously inducted into the Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame and continued performing and recording music.

In May, Eagle Pass Mayor Aaron Valdez recognized him for his decades of contributions to Tejano music.

Gonzalez also received a Lifetime Achievement Award during the eighth annual All-Star Music Awards.

The Totally Tejano Hall of Fame and Museum opened in December 2025 at 1414 Fredericksburg Road in San Antonio. The approximately 5,000-square-foot facility was established to preserve and present the history of Tejano, conjunto and other Mexican American musical traditions.

Its collection includes stage clothing, instruments, awards, photographs, albums, posters and other memorabilia from some of the most recognized figures in Tejano music.

Oscar G.’s exhibit induction placed the Eagle Pass native’s legacy alongside those of other influential performers whose music helped shape generations of Tejano artists and listeners.

Oscar G. began his musical career while growing up in a federal housing project named “Mabe Terrace” in Eagle Pass, Texas. In his developmental years as a high school student at Eagle Pass High School, he played with Henry Lee and The Sound Masters and later with Chicano Breed.

Since a young child, Oscar G. loved music and was never shy to take lead vocals in every band he played in.
