Maverick County Hospital District Leaders Attend National 340B Conference Focusing on Healthcare Access and Patient Services

MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin — Representatives from the Maverick County Hospital District attended the 2026 340B Grantees Fall Conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, joining healthcare leaders and federal grantees from across the country for training focused on strengthening healthcare access, maximizing available resources and improving services for underserved communities.
MCHD Chief Executive Officer Nestor Bonilla, Board Trustees Stephany Valdez and Becky Robinson, Xavier Benavides and Ryan White Program Director Marcos Treviño attended the conference, which was held September 26 through September 28, 2026.
The national conference, hosted by RWC-340B, brought together representatives from Ryan White clinics, Federally Qualified Health Centers, specialty clinics and other federal grantees. Participants shared best practices, learned from healthcare experts and discussed challenges facing organizations participating in the federal 340B Drug Pricing Program.
The 340B program was established in 1992 and requires participating pharmaceutical manufacturers to provide outpatient drugs at discounted prices to eligible healthcare organizations and covered entities.
The program helps safety-net healthcare providers stretch available resources while serving eligible patients.
The conference had particular relevance for MCHD because of the District’s Ryan White Program, which provides healthcare and support services to eligible individuals.
Ryan White programs participating in 340B can use savings generated through discounted prescription drugs to help support patient services.
Those resources can help with medical care, prescription drug access and adherence assistance, case management, medical transportation, mental health services, health education, insurance assistance and other patient support programs.
Conference discussions examined several important areas of the 340B program, including compliance, program eligibility, medication access, pharmacy and inventory management, preventing drug diversion and duplicate discounts, maximizing available healthcare resources and using data to improve patient outcomes and satisfaction.
Participants also had access to 340B University, an educational program presented by Apexus, the HRSA 340B Prime Vendor. The training provided additional information about eligibility requirements, compliance responsibilities and proper administration of the program.
For the Maverick County Hospital District delegation, the conference provided an opportunity to learn how healthcare organizations throughout the country were using federal programs and available resources to strengthen patient care.
The information and experience brought back to Maverick County could help District leadership examine opportunities involving medication access, patient assistance, pharmacy operations, compliance, data management and additional support services for eligible patients.
The conference also allowed MCHD representatives to exchange information with healthcare professionals from other communities and learn about programs, partnerships and strategies being implemented elsewhere.
