Maverick County Memorial International Airport Awarded Nearly $13 Million for Pavement Improvements

The Texas Transportation Commission approved nearly $13 million in federal funding for pavement improvements at Maverick County Memorial International Airport during its meeting held Thursday, September 24, 2026.

The funding award was included among several airport improvement projects presented through the Texas Department of Transportation Aviation Division.

According to TxDOT documents, Maverick County will receive $12,962,750 in federal funding for the airport project. The county will be responsible for a local contribution of $682,250.

Together, the federal funding and local contribution bring the project’s estimated total cost to $13,645,000. No state funding was listed for the project.

The money will be used for pavement improvements at the county-owned airport in Eagle Pass. The TxDOT document does not specify which runways, taxiways or other paved areas will be improved.

TxDOT stated that the airports included in the funding package require improvements to preserve their facilities or meet applicable aviation standards.

The projects will be administered through TxDOT’s Aviation Facilities Grant Program and remain subject to federal and state statutory and regulatory requirements.

A public hearing concerning the proposed airport projects was held August 31, 2026. TxDOT reported that no public comments were received.

The federal award represents approximately 95 percent of the Maverick County project’s total estimated cost, with the county providing the remaining 5 percent.

The investment will support the continued maintenance and development of Maverick County Memorial International Airport, which serves local aviation, transportation, economic development and emergency operations throughout Eagle Pass and Maverick County.
