EAGLE PASS, Texas — A 14-year-old male student attending Eagle Pass Junior High School was detained and subsequently placed in a juvenile detention facility following an investigation into a threatening social media post referencing a possible act of terrorism against the school.
According to an official media release issued Tuesday, October 27, 2026 by Eagle Pass Police Chief Amy Gonzalez, the investigation began after a concerned parent contacted the Eagle Pass Police Department regarding the threatening post.
The social media publication reportedly contained references to a terroristic threat involving Eagle Pass Junior High School, prompting investigators to immediately begin efforts to identify the individual responsible and determine whether students, teachers, or school personnel were in danger.
Through investigative efforts, officers identified the individual responsible and obtained a residential address. The 14-year-old juvenile was subsequently detained and transported to the Eagle Pass Police Department for further investigation.
The Juvenile Probation Department was immediately notified and responded to the police station. Following coordination between police investigators and juvenile probation officers, the teenager was remanded to a juvenile detention facility.
Police emphasized that threats involving schools, students, and educational personnel are taken extremely seriously, regardless of whether they are intended as jokes.
Authorities warned that social media posts depicting firearms or suggesting violence against schools can generate widespread fear, disrupt educational activities, and create serious concerns throughout the community.
The department also urged parents to discuss with their children the potential consequences of making threats through social media, including content created or manipulated using artificial intelligence.
Police Chief Gonzalez emphasized that threatening behavior of this nature will not be tolerated and that law enforcement will continue investigating all reported threats while taking appropriate action under the law.
The department also recognized the concerned parent whose timely report allowed investigators to respond promptly, emphasizing the importance of parental involvement and community awareness in preventing potential acts of violence.
Authorities encouraged residents to immediately report suspicious behavior or threatening communications to law enforcement or school officials.
The incident serves as another reminder of the serious consequences that can result from irresponsible social media activity, particularly when threats involve schools and the safety of children.
As of Tuesday morning, authorities had not disclosed whether formal juvenile charges had been filed or whether investigators determined that the student had the means or intent to carry out the reported threat.
The Eagle Pass Police Department reiterated that protecting students, educators, and the community remains among its highest priorities.
