The Maverick County Elections Department is reviewing and processing 499 voter registration records affected by a statewide transmission problem involving the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
The problem occurred after certain voter registration applications and updates submitted through DPS online services were incomplete and were not transmitted to county voter registrars for processing. Some of the delayed records date as far back as 2025.
These transactions generally occurred when residents renewed a driver’s license, updated an address or completed another online DPS transaction and selected the option to register to vote or update their voter information.
After discovering the problem, DPS and the Texas Secretary of State’s Office identified the affected records and began sending them to election departments across Texas.
Maverick County Elections Administrator Marianna Flores-Garcia announced that her office received 499 affected records and is working to review and process each one.
The 499 records do not necessarily represent 499 new voters. They may include new registration applications, address changes and other updates. Election workers must examine the records individually to confirm their validity and determine whether more recent information has already been processed.
The Elections Department said it is working diligently to ensure all valid registrations and updates submitted by the applicable deadline are properly processed.
The delay originated at the state level and was not caused by the Maverick County Elections Department.
However, local election employees must now process the additional records shortly before voter registration closes and early voting begins.
Residents are encouraged to check their voter registration status and confirm that their name, address and other information are accurate before the Monday, October 5 deadline.
Registration information may be verified through VoteTexas.gov.
Anyone submitting an application by mail must ensure it is postmarked no later than October 5.
Early voting for the November 3 General Election begins October 19 and continues through October 30.
Voters with questions or concerns may contact the Maverick County Elections Department at 830-757-4175 or visit its office at 501 Main Street, Suite B, in Eagle Pass.
