Eagle Pass and Maverick County Leaders Meet to Strengthen Regional Collaboration and Community Progress

Mayor Aaron Valdez and City of Eagle Pass staff met Tuesday, September 29, 2026 with representatives from Eagle Pass Water Works, Maverick County, the Eagle Pass Independent School District and the Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce to discuss opportunities for continued collaboration and community growth.
The meeting focused on overall plans for the participating entities to continue working together for the betterment of Eagle Pass and the surrounding region.
“This meeting reflects our shared commitment to moving Eagle Pass forward,” Valdez said. “When our local organizations work together, we can better address the needs of our residents, strengthen economic opportunities and build a more prosperous future for the entire region.”
Discussions included socioeconomic development, educational opportunities and other initiatives that could support local families, businesses and the community’s long-term growth.
EPISD Superintendent Samuel Mijares emphasized the importance of including education in broader discussions about regional development.
“Education plays an essential role in the future of our community,” Mijares said. “By working with our local partners, we can help prepare our students for future opportunities while supporting the workforce and economic needs of the region.”The gathering allowed representatives to share ideas, identify common priorities and explore ways their organizations can coordinate resources and efforts more effectively.
Local leaders emphasized that cooperation among government entities, educational institutions, utility providers and the business community will remain important as Eagle Pass and Maverick County continue growing.
