The Eagle Pass City Council will meet Tuesday, October 6, 2026 to consider several significant matters, including the confirmation of a new fire chief, an update on the proposed municipal animal shelter and a feasibility study for a roadway extension.
The regular meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. inside the City Council Chambers at City Hall, located at 100 S. Monroe Street.
Among the most closely watched items is the confirmation of Rodolfo Cardona as Eagle Pass Fire Chief. Cardona was recently selected for the position following a city hiring process. The council’s confirmation is required under Chapter 143 of the Texas Local Government Code.
Council members will also receive a presentation concerning the design and development of the proposed City of Eagle Pass Animal Shelter.
The project has drawn community interest as residents continue calling for improved facilities and services for stray and abandoned animals.
Another important item involves the possible selection of a firm under RFQ No. 2026-015 to conduct a planning and feasibility study for a proposed roadway extension. If approved, City Manager Homero Balderas would be authorized to negotiate and execute an agreement for the study.
Two proposed ordinances are also scheduled for introduction. One would establish a fee schedule for private use of the Alfonso Mallen Recreation Center. The other would create requirements and charges for restoring city streets and public rights-of-way after excavation work.
Additional agenda items include relocating a bus stop from 2095 E. Main Street to the 300 block of Pecos Street, adopting the city’s 2026 tax roll and considering a land-lease agreement with Spectrum Gulf Coast for city-owned property at 562 Colorado Street.
Tejano Legends Chapter 26 will also make a presentation concerning cultural heritage, tourism and downtown revitalization.
The meeting will begin with a Fire Prevention Week proclamation and recognition of Eagle Pass as a R.O.A.D. Ready designated municipality.
Residents may address the council during Citizens Communications by submitting the required form to the city secretary. Public comments are limited to three minutes per speaker.
The meeting details and listed matters were verified through the city’s agenda system and official council information.
