Eagle Pass Mayor Aaron Valdez traveled to Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico this week to meet with Governor Manolo Jiménez Salinas and discuss progress on the Camino Real International Bridge expansion.
Jiménez Salinas reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the project, calling it a priority for both governments.
“We had an excellent meeting with our friend and neighbor, Eagle Pass Mayor Aaron Valdez, to review progress on the expansion of Bridge II,” said Salinas.
“This border crossing is part of the public assets of the people of Coahuila and the citizens of Eagle Pass. That is why we will always strengthen, protect and defend it. This is a priority project for our governments. We will continue working as a team for the benefit of our people,” Jimenez Salinas said.
The City of Eagle Pass continues working on the design phase of the expansion, which would increase the bridge from six lanes to twelve.
“This expansion is a priority for Eagle Pass because it will allow us to handle more commercial traffic and prepare for future growth. We will continue working with our partners in Coahuila and Piedras Negras to move this project forward for the benefit of our communities,” Valdez said.
In May, Eagle Pass and Coahuila officials joined engineers, designers and contractors in signing an agreement to begin technical design work.
Representatives from LJA Engineering and the city administration participated.
At that meeting, Valdez thanked participants for their collaboration and emphasized the importance of preparing for increased commercial traffic.
The project’s estimated cost is approximately $50 million. The schedule presented during the planning process projected completion around October 2029, provided work proceeds on schedule.
The expansion follows a goodwill agreement signed in Saltillo in 2025 by Jiménez Salinas, Valdez and Piedras Negras Mayor Jacobo Rodríguez.
During those discussions, officials reviewed timelines, administrative requirements and infrastructure needs.Jiménez Salinas also highlighted improvements along Mexico’s Federal Highway 57 as part of efforts to strengthen trade through the region.
Valdez has identified the bridge expansion as one of Eagle Pass’s top infrastructure priorities as officials on both sides continue coordinating its development.
