The City of Eagle Pass International Bridge I will operate 24 hours a day on December 17, 18 and 19, 2026 to accommodate holiday travelers entering Mexico through Eagle Pass as part of the Paisano program, city officials announced Tuesday.
Mayor Aaron Valdez, City Bridge Manager Patricia Mancha and Mexican Consul Vivian Juarez Mondragon participated in an informational conference outlining preparations for the seasonal increase in traffic through the Eagle Pass-Piedras Negras ports of entry.
The annual program brings thousands of Mexican nationals and residents living in the United States through the border community as they travel into Mexico to spend the holidays with family and friends.
Valdez emphasized the importance of advance preparation and coordination among agencies to provide a safer, more organized crossing experience.
Planning began in July, when local, state and federal authorities joined representatives from Mexico at the Emergency Operations Center for a binational coordination meeting focused on the 2026 Paisano Program.
Representatives from the City of Eagle Pass, Maverick County, the State of Texas, federal agencies and Piedras Negras discussed challenges associated with the influx of travelers.Preparations focus on reducing congestion, improving communication among participating agencies and assisting travelers while minimizing disruptions to local residents and businesses.
Holiday crossings can place additional demands on streets leading to the international bridges. The extended hours at Bridge I are intended to help accommodate southbound traffic during the busy travel period.
