The Eagle Pass Police Department has issued a public awareness alert after receiving several reports of tracking devices found on vehicles that had traveled to Mexico.

According to the department, the devices have been discovered on both the exterior and interior of vehicles.

Police are urging residents to inspect their vehicles regularly and remain especially vigilant after traveling to Mexico or other border regions.

The alert identifies several types of devices residents should watch for, including magnetic GPS trackers, Bluetooth devices such as Apple AirTags and Tile tags, and tracking devices disguised as cigarette lighter inserts.

Common hiding places include a vehicle’s undercarriage, bumpers, wheel wells, areas beneath seats, center consoles and glove compartments.

Police advise anyone who discovers an unfamiliar device not to remove or disassemble it.

Instead, residents should contact the department and report the discovery or any suspicion that their vehicle is being tracked.

The alert does not specify how many devices have been recovered, who placed them or the purpose behind their placement.

Residents can report suspicious activity to the Eagle Pass Police Department at (830) 773-9044. Anyone facing an emergency should call 911.
