Maverick County officials and engineers visited flood-prone locations throughout Eagle Pass and Maverick County on Monday and Tuesday, October 19-20, 2026 as part of a study intended to identify drainage problems and guide future infrastructure improvements.
County Planning Director Oscar Garza, Building Inspector Israel Rodriguez and Grant Administrator Isaak Ruiz participated in the site visits alongside representatives from HDR Engineering.
The visits focused on locations that have experienced flooding in recent years. Through the Flood Management Evaluation, engineers will assess existing drainage conditions, identify areas of concern and examine potential improvements to help manage heavy rainfall and reduce flood risks.
According to county officials, the initiative is supported by grant funding secured through coordination with Regional Flood Planning Group 15 and the Texas Water Development Board, with support from County Judge Pablo Garcia Jr.
County Commissioner Olga Ramos serves as Maverick County’s representative on the regional planning group.
Her participation provides a connection between local flooding concerns and regional efforts to identify infrastructure needs and funding opportunities.
Once completed, the evaluation is expected to provide technical information the county can use to prioritize drainage projects and support applications for additional state and federal funding.
The study represents a planning step toward potential construction projects. County officials did not provide a completion date, grant amount or a list of specific drainage improvements in the announcement.
Its findings could help guide future investments aimed at protecting residents, homes, businesses and public infrastructure in areas vulnerable to flooding.
