Maverick County has been awarded $4,654,482.60 in Operation Lone Star grant funding to support eligible law enforcement and border security activities, County Attorney Jaime A. “AJ” Iracheta announced.
Iracheta, who serves as project director for the county’s Operation Lone Star program, said the award marks the county’s fifth grant since 2021, representing six years of funding.
The first grant covered two years.
The funding can be used for approved expenses involving personnel, patrol and investigative operations, equipment, technology and other eligible activities.
Iracheta said the award comes as Maverick County continues facing budget challenges, providing participating departments with resources without relying solely on local taxpayer funding.
The grant is designated for approved program expenses rather than unrestricted county spending.
“With the budget challenges our county continues to face, securing this level of outside funding is a big deal,” Iracheta said.
According to Iracheta, the local program has expanded over the years to include multiple county departments and law enforcement partners.
He credited both personnel working in the field and employees handling administrative responsibilities for supporting the program.
Iracheta described the award as a significant accomplishment for Maverick County and thanked participating agencies and staff for their collaboration and continued work.
The announcement did not provide a breakdown of how the latest award will be distributed among participating departments or specific purchases and operations.
