Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber and Chief Deputy De Leon recently visited the Webb County Sheriff’s Office to learn more about the technology and resources being used to strengthen border security and public safety operations.
During the visit, Schmerber and De Leon met with Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar and members of his staff. They also received an informative tour of the agency’s Border Security Operations Center.
The tour allowed Maverick County’s law enforcement leaders to observe the technology, equipment and operational capabilities Webb County uses to monitor activity, share information and coordinate responses among law enforcement agencies.
The visit could help the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office identify similar opportunities to modernize its operations and strengthen its ability to protect residents throughout the county.
Sheriff Schmerber could also explore available state and federal grants, along with other funding sources, that could help Maverick County acquire comparable technology and develop additional operational capabilities without placing the entire financial burden on local taxpayers.
Investing in modern law enforcement resources could improve communication, enhance coordination among local, state and federal agencies and provide deputies with better information when responding to emergencies or potential security threats.
For a border community such as Maverick County, access to updated technology and stronger information-sharing systems can play an important role in protecting residents while helping law enforcement agencies respond more efficiently.
Schmerber and De Leon thanked Sheriff Cuellar and the Webb County Sheriff’s Office for welcoming them and sharing their experience and knowledge.
