The Maverick County Sheriff’s Office is taking additional precautions ahead of Halloween as deputies conduct registered sex offender compliance checks throughout the county to help ensure the safety of children and families during the upcoming celebrations.
Maverick County Sheriff’s Office Chief of Deputies Roberto De Leon informed the community that deputies are actively verifying addresses and conducting compliance checks to ensure registered sex offenders are following all applicable legal requirements during the Halloween season.
With Halloween approaching on Saturday, October 31, 2026 authorities are reminding parents and guardians to remain vigilant as hundreds of children are expected to participate in traditional trick-or-treating activities throughout Eagle Pass and Maverick County.
The Sheriff’s Office is encouraging parents to familiarize themselves with their neighborhoods and review publicly available registered sex offender information before taking their children trick-or-treating.
Authorities also recommend planning trick-or-treating routes in advance, selecting well-lit streets and ensuring that young children are accompanied by responsible adults.
Additional safety recommendations include carrying flashlights, reminding children never to enter a stranger’s home or vehicle and carefully inspecting Halloween candy before allowing children to consume it.
The department also emphasized the importance of reporting suspicious activity to law enforcement rather than confronting individuals.
The compliance checks are part of the department’s efforts to verify that registered offenders are meeting applicable legal obligations while promoting public awareness and safety during Halloween activities.
De Leon encouraged residents to cooperate with law enforcement and remain attentive to their surroundings, particularly in neighborhoods where large numbers of children and families are expected to gather.
The Maverick County Sheriff’s Office reminds residents that community participation plays an important role in preventing potentially dangerous situations.
