Eagle Pass recorded nearly $3.865 billion in transborder freight in July 2026, ranking ninth among the top 10 U.S. ports listed by the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS).
The monthly figure reflects the value of freight recorded through the Eagle Pass port in U.S. trade with Mexico. The BTS report, released Sept. 23, lists Eagle Pass behind Hidalgo, Texas, and ahead of Pembina, North Dakota. It tracks trade in both directions and across transportation modes.
The amount illustrates Eagle Pass’ role in North American trade and the supply chains that connect businesses and manufacturers in the United States and Mexico.
The BTS reported that U.S.-Mexico freight totaled $94.8 billion nationwide in July, with trucks carrying $74.6 billion and rail carrying $8.1 billion.
Eagle Pass is also identified among the leading rail connection ports for U.S.-Mexico freight.
For Maverick County and the surrounding region, substantial trade activity can support demand for transportation, warehousing, logistics and related services.
It also underscores the importance of maintaining reliable roads, bridges, rail connections and customs operations as cross-border commerce grows.
The total is a measure of merchandise value recorded in federal trade data, not a direct estimate of local wages, tax revenue or economic output. BTS notes that for imports, the port shown in the data can reflect where customs entry documents were filed and duties paid, which may not always be the location where the goods physically crossed the border.
BTS data are based on U.S. import and export records and are used to study freight activity, transportation corridors and infrastructure needs.
