SAFE EP is encouraging men throughout Eagle Pass and Maverick County to speak openly about their mental health and seek help when needed through its Los Hombres Sí Lloran initiative.
The organization recently shared information on mental health services available to local residents, emphasizing that men should not feel embarrassed or ashamed to seek assistance when dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, relationship problems, or other personal difficulties.
The campaign addresses an issue that often goes unspoken, particularly among men who have grown up believing they must remain strong, hide their emotions, and handle their problems without asking for help.
SAFE EP wants to change that perception by reminding men that experiencing emotional difficulties is not a sign of weakness and that professional help is available.
As part of its outreach, the organization provided a list of mental health resources, including Maverick County Hospital District Behavioral Health at (830) 757-4900, United Medical Centers at (830) 773-8917, Camino Real Community Services at (830) 498-2000, Inclusive Minds Counseling at (210) 749-5671, and MYS Counseling & Assessment at (979) 233-1584.
Residents who need immediate emotional support can also call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, which provides free and confidential assistance 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Additional information is available through SAFE EP’s website at www.epsafe.org/mental-health-resources and www.epsafe.org/community-directory.
The organization is also asking families and friends to pay closer attention to the men in their lives, especially those who may be experiencing personal difficulties but are unwilling to talk about them.
Many men continue to struggle in silence because of the stigma associated with discussing mental health, making awareness and access to counseling services particularly important.
Through Los Hombres Sí Lloran, SAFE EP hopes to encourage more conversations about men’s mental health while making sure residents know where to turn when they need assistance.
The organization is urging the community to share the available resources and check on friends, relatives, coworkers, and others who may be going through difficult times.
The campaign serves as a reminder that men, just like everyone else, sometimes need someone to listen and help them through life’s challenges.
