Maverick County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Roberto De Leon informed the community that the department was conducting Weapon Retention and Patrol Tactics Training for all deputies to strengthen their skills and improve their readiness when responding to challenging situations.
De Leon explained that the training was part of the department’s continuing effort to ensure deputies were better prepared to protect themselves and the residents they serve.
Weapon retention training focuses on helping law enforcement officers maintain control of their firearms during physical confrontations, reducing the risk of someone gaining access to an officer’s weapon. Patrol tactics training reinforces safety practices and decision-making skills used while carrying out law enforcement duties.
According to information released by the Sheriff’s Office, the training was intended to improve deputies’ ability to handle difficult encounters while maintaining a focus on officer and public safety.
Continued training is an important component of effective law enforcement because deputies can face unpredictable circumstances requiring sound judgment, clear communication and appropriate responses. Regular instruction and practice help officers reinforce their skills, identify areas needing improvement and prepare to make decisions under pressure. That preparation can help reduce preventable mistakes and improve safety for everyone involved.
De Leon emphasized that the safety of deputies and the public remained a top priority for the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office.
The department reaffirmed its commitment to continuous training, professionalism and providing the community with a high level of law enforcement service.
The training reflected the department’s stated goal of preparing deputies today for the challenges they could face tomorrow while encouraging them to remain ready and serve with dedication.
