As Maverick County voters prepare for the Tuesday, November 3, 2026 General Election, an examination of early voting participation across the county’s 16 voting precincts reveals significant differences in voter turnout that could play an important role in closely contested local races.
According to figures provided by the Maverick County Elections Department, 9,583 ballots were reported during the early voting period October 19-30,representing approximately 25.76 percent of the county’s 37,204 registered voters.
Of those ballots, 9,498 were included in the precinct voting breakdown, while 85 were identified as provisional and limited ballots.
The precinct figures illustrate how voter participation varies throughout Eagle Pass and Maverick County, with some areas recording participation exceeding 30 percent while others remained below 20 percent.
Precinct 4B recorded the highest participation rate, with 1,176 ballots among 3,510 registered voters, representing 33.50 percent.
Precinct 3A followed with 1,167 ballots among 3,622 registered voters, representing 32.22 percent participation. Precinct 1B recorded 544 ballots among 1,729 registered voters, or 31.46 percent.
These precincts demonstrated how voter participation percentages can differ significantly even among communities with substantially different registered voter populations.
Other precincts recorded considerably lower voter participation.
Precinct 3C registered 105 ballots among 648 registered voters, representing 16.20 percent, the lowest participation rate among the 16 precincts.
Precinct 2C recorded 643 ballots among 3,776 registered voters, representing 17.03 percent, while Precinct 2D recorded 34 ballots among 194 registered voters, or 17.53 percent.
The figures are particularly noteworthy when considering the number of registered voters who had not participated before Election Day.
Precinct 2C had approximately 3,133 registered voters who had not cast early ballots, while Precinct 3B had approximately 4,034.
Combined, those two precincts accounted for more than 7,100 registered voters who had not participated during early voting.
Such numbers illustrate how Election Day participation could significantly increase overall turnout and become mathematically important in races decided by relatively narrow margins.
Precinct 3B recorded the largest number of early ballots, with 1,295 among 5,329 registered voters, representing 24.30 percent participation.
Precinct 1C followed with 1,289 ballots among 4,710 registered voters, representing 27.37 percent.
The comparison demonstrates that precincts generating larger numbers of ballots do not necessarily record the highest percentage of voter participation.
An examination by county commissioner precinct revealed additional differences.
Commissioner Precinct 1 recorded approximately 27 percent participation, followed by Precinct 3 with approximately 26.6 percent and Precinct 4 with approximately 26 percent.
Commissioner Precinct 2 recorded approximately 20 percent participation, considerably below the other three commissioner precincts.
Although these figures identify differences in voter participation, they do not establish which candidates residents support or indicate how individual precincts will vote on Election Day.
The November 3 ballot includes several local contests, including the Maverick County Judge race and positions on the Maverick County Hospital District Board of Trustees and the Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustees.
Countywide early voting participation increased substantially compared with the 2022 Midterm Election, when only 6,689 early ballots were recorded.
This year’s 9,583 reported early ballots represented an increase of 2,894 votes, approximately 43.27 percent more than four years ago.
Despite the increase, approximately 74.24 percent of registered voters had not participated during the early voting period.
The precinct breakdown highlights the importance of examining both the total number of ballots cast and the percentage of registered voters participating when evaluating election turnout.
In closely contested races, relatively small changes in participation across several precincts can affect the final vote totals, although the outcome ultimately depends on how participating voters cast their ballots.
As Maverick County approaches Election Day, the figures demonstrate how participation across individual communities contributes to countywide election results and how thousands of registered voters still have an opportunity to participate.
Election Day voting will take place Tuesday, November 3, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at designated polling locations throughout Maverick County.
