The Maverick County Hospital District’s Mobile Wellness Unit provided free flu shots and health screenings through last week at Maverick County Lake, giving residents an opportunity to receive preventive care close to home.
Maverick County Hospital District Chief Executive Officer Nestor Bonilla emphasized the importance of making preventive healthcare accessible and encouraged residents to take advantage of the free services to help protect themselves and their loved ones.
The district set up its mobile wellness health unit at Maverick County Lake, providing free flu shots and health screenings for two consecutive days until 1 p.m. MCHD thanked everyone who stopped by and reaffirmed its commitment to serving the community.
Getting an annual flu shot helps reduce the risk of influenza and its potentially serious complications. Vaccination can also reduce the severity of illness in people who contract the flu despite being vaccinated, lowering their risk of hospitalization. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends annual flu vaccination for everyone six months and older, with rare exceptions.
Through its mobile health unit, MCHD brought vaccinations and health screenings directly to residents, providing another opportunity for families to take care of their health.
