EAGLE PASS — SAFE EP founder Elias Diaz announced Tuesday, November 3, 2026 that the organization was working to bring Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to Eagle Pass, an effort that would give local children free books from birth to age five.
During a press conference, Diaz spoke about conversations with parents who worry they are falling short of meeting their children’s needs and doing enough to foster their growth and mobility.
The initiative would give families more books to read together at home. Reading aloud gives young children a chance to hear new words, ask questions and become familiar with books before they start school.
SAFE EP will hold a public informational meeting at noon Friday, November 6, at the ICT Center, 3295 Bob Rogers Drive in Eagle Pass. Residents, community leaders, organizations and potential supporters from across Maverick County are invited to learn how the program works and discuss ways to help bring it to the community.
Those planning to attend can “RSVP online” (https://forms.gle/VfHHy9vURruVSjXe9). For more information, call SAFE EP at 830-325-3138.
